Pilates classes can be done by practically anyone, however, sometimes you need more attention from the teacher so that each exercise is fully adapted to your needs. This is for example the case when you have an injury, a health condition, or when you simply need to move at a slower pace. You may not be able to kneel, to sit on a mat on the floor, or to work on your balance without something to support you. In these cases, the exercise is designed to help you perform it without feeling limited. We may use a wall, a chair, or select an entirely different way of executing the movement.
The aim of these classes is always on making the movement work for you, not against you. While this may seem to be a simple concept, it can be surprisingly challenging to apply. Your body has its own memory and, in cases of pain or discomfort, it can react in ways that accentuate the problem.
Our classes aim to counteract cycles of distress and limited mobility by building new movement patterns, improving your overall range of motion, and developing strength in the right areas. We will work on improving your breathing and on developing your body awareness. An enhanced perception will not only help you to identify positions that
cause physical distress, but also enable you to self correct.
Pilates for mobility restrictions can be attended by seniors and people of any age with some form of health or physical complaint. The class is taught by a teacher both trained and experienced in working with these groups.
