Phyllis Ferwerda received her four-year yoga education at the “Saswitha institute for Yoga and Philosophy” in Bilthoven, and specialized in “Chakra philosophy”. She completed courses in breath- and breathing therapy, ayurvedic massage, ayurveda and anatomy/fysiology.
Currently, she is also interested in Critical Alignment Yoga, and learning with Kina Broekmans in the Hague.
Her lessons are Saswitha based. In her classes, the focus is on the breath. The breath, which is the bridge between our consciousness and our body, is the carrier of all the postures. This way of practicing yoga helps to stay in the moment, and recognize what it is you actually need. It helps to reduce stress levels, and makes you feel more comfortable in your body. The lessons are a combination of standing-, sitting- and lying postures, breathing exercises, relaxation and meditation.
Phyllis Ferwerda is a pianist and a vocal coach, and a reknowned accompanist and chamber musician. She has been a teacher at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague for more than 25 years. Since 2016, she is teacher of a “yoga-elective for musicians”at the Royal Conservatory. The lessons are given at the Haags Yogacentrum. She has also been teaching yoga at “Yoga op de hoogte”, in the Hague since 2014.

“Every time I finish the yoga lesson with Phyllis, I feel as light as if my body is nothing but a floating vessel on the sea of my breath, and my mind is the captain of the sails!
